LATE BREAKING WEATHER ADVISORY FROM COUNCIL
Attention participants scheduled for Low Challenge Course or Horseback Riding on Saturday AM: Please be advised that these classes are currently scheduled to proceed as planned. It will be cold early in the morning, so remember to dress in layers! In the event that there is lingering ice on the trails or on the low challenge course, you will be offered your choice of participating in alternative activities (still part of the class, to be determined by the instructor); or, you may be able to withdraw from the class, receive a reimbursement for the class, and be reassigned to free time or an alternate class (depending upon space and pre-requisite/supplies). We hope that you will still be able to attend class as planned, but we cannot control the weather! Thanks for your understanding and patience.
Check the weather
for camp before heading out - we are hoping for sunny but chilly skies on
Saturday and Sunday but it's looking
like there might be rain or "wintery mix" on Friday! See
http://bit.ly/MtnMagicWeather.
We have t-shirts. sweatshirts and totes this year available to pre-pay & order for pickup when you register at camp! Visit our online store to see the cool shirts and bags available. We have short sleeve, 3/4 sleeve, and long sleeve t-shirt options, plus a sweatshirt and a tote bag. Prices range from $6 (tote bag) to $12-$17 for the t-shirts, and $26 for the sweatshirt (2x and 3x sizes are slightly higher). Deadline to order for delivery at camp is Friday noon, January 18th. Orders placed after the cut-off time will be mailed to your home after camp, with an additional amount added for postage. We will also have order forms at camp.
Our terrific custom t-shirt supplier, Yellow Llama, has given us a 20% discount coupon on all of their regular items (& some other special deals) to share with our participants, good until March 15, 2013.
Were you at Mountain Magic last year? If so, please bring your nametag pouch from last year if you still have it! (Special gift at check-in if you do!)
We have created a FAQ section at the bottom of this page where we will post answers to questions from participants.
Wizardry Animals Help Traumatized Children via Fire Department Station 8. In keeping with this year's wizardry theme, please bring one new stuffed toy Owl, Cat, or Frog (or other wizardly animal) with you to camp to benefit locally displaced-by-fire & traumatized children care of Camp Misty Mountain's Fire Department - Station 8. A cute stuffed animal goes a long way in helping to distract a distressed child during scary times (home is ablaze, Mom is on a stretcher being lifted into an ambulance after a car accident, etc.) At dinner on Saturday evening, firefighters from Station 8 will come in person to say hello and receive the stuffed animals. Please place your new stuffed toy on the marked table in the dining hall upon Check-in on Friday. It'll be a magical display of caring!
Stand Up for Kids gives support to youth
living on the streets in the metro Atlanta area by providing counseling, meals,
showers, etc. It is not an overnight shelter but a daytime facility that youth
know they can visit when needed. We will again be making Outreach Hygiene Kits
that will be given to youth when they come in to take showers. Please bring any of the following items.
The most needed are Travel size hygiene items: soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, tooth
paste, tooth brushes, mouthwash, dental floss, disposable razor, tissue packs,
deodorant (male/female), lip balm, sun screen, handi-wipes, small flashlights,
feminine products, comb/brush, and/or wash cloths. We will be collecting
donations in the dining hall in Stand Up For Kids marked boxes. For all
who contribute, there will be a scroll for you to sign with either your
name and/or troop/SU numbers that will be given to the organization with
the kits.
We have a songbook for the GS Sing-Along, also graces for the meals! Print a copy if you'd like one of your own. 2013 Songbook Graces
Goodies for freebie table – do you have leftover craft supplies? Has your troop outgrown activities? Do you have extra badges/patches to donate? Please bring anything you would like to share with others (please leave junky trash at home, though). Bring some, take some!

FAQ
Why was the date moved from the 3rd weekend of January to the 4th weekend? Is this going to be a permanent date change?
Mountain Magic Leader Weekend event is always held the weekend after the MLK holiday. It actually isn't the 3rd or 4th weekend per se. It varies based on when the MLK holiday falls. (MLK is always the 3rd Monday, but depending what day the month starts, it makes our weekend sometimes the 3rd weekend and sometimes the 4th.)
I missed the order deadline for t-shirts. Can I still get one? What will it cost to ship my order to me if I order now?
We will have a second run of printing done immediately after camp. We are accepting orders through the end of the event. Shipping for orders ≤$32 will be $5.50. For orders over $32, shipping will be slightly higher. You can expect to receive your items about two weeks after camp.
I forgot my cell phone charger -how can I keep the battery up while I'm at camp? (I sure would like to use my phone's alarm clock and apps!)
Put smart phones on "Airplane Mode" while at camp. It won't keep trying to search for a signal and won't run down so fast. (Rumor has it that a new cell phone tower is going up which might soon get cell signal into camp.)
