Senior Girl Scout Troop 4715 News

Fernbank Day was a big success!

Our troop starred in an event at Fernbank Natural History Museum that brought 50 Brownies and Juniors into the Museum for a great day of learning and fun.  Our girls were the informed, polite, lovely, generally-all-round-wonderful facilitators.  Our Council rep was thrilled with us.  Evie’s patch got an enthusiastic reception from all the troops that saw it, and it should be visible in the Badge and Sash soon.  Hooray for us!

Our next meeting is Friday, April 25th

Parents, please stop by the meeting (even if your girls are out of town) & fill out the official GS Registration forms for next year.  The fee is $10 & checks can be made payable to "GSCNWGA".  Call Pat to arrange another time if you're unable to stop by the meeting.

By the time we meet, many of us should be finished with most of our paperwork for things completed toward Gold Awards.  Girls in the 11th grade are the ones on the spot to get things finished up soon.  They (Anne, Christina, Chandler, Evelyn, Katie) need to finish the preliminary steps between now and June and then get Council approval for their projects.  Remember that you need to finish your project (and its paperwork) by next February to be able to apply for a Gold Award Scholarship.

If you’re nearly done or only partly done with your paperwork, try to spend some of your spring break time to get it finished up.  Your trusty advisors are always willing to help – just call!  At our meeting we’ll try to help anyone finish up. Here’s Pat’s list of who’s finished with what and who’s nearly finished.  It might be complete and correct, but if it’s not, please let her know!

Prerequisite for Gold Award: Complete four Interest Patch Projects (IPP's)

Museum Discovery IPP – Kasey, Anne, Stephanies E and H, Chandler, Rossie, Diana, Elizabeth, Katie, Tabby, Evie, Jessie, and Jenny are finished because of the activities at the High Museum and volunteering at Fernbank for the Girl Scout Day.  Christina and Karen need to finish one or two things.

Emergency Preparedness IPP – Everyone did all the requirements for this IPP (except the service project) at our February camping trip.  The girls who volunteered for CPR Saturday last year and the girls who worked with Mrs. Gargiullo at the Atlanta Food Bank have completed the service project.  If you haven’t done one or the other, call Mrs. Gargiullo and get signed up for a trip to the food bank. Click the link to read a description of our progress.

Stress to Success IPP – Only Anne and Elizabeth have reported finishing the service project.  If you’ve finished, please fill out the paperwork and get it signed by one of your trusty advisors.  Everyone (except Tabby, Kasey, and Steph E. who are not yet doing this IPP) has finished everything else. Click the link to read a description of our progress.

Camping IPP – Pat thinks that everyone except Chandler, Jenny, Kasey, Katie and Tabby has completed this one.  Click the link to read over the description of our progress and see what you think.

Outdoor Survival IPP – Anne has completed all of this except the service project.

Home Improvement IPP– Anne has completed all of this except installing a carbon monoxide detector.

Visual Arts IPP – Pat thinks that Katie & Kasey have completed SB 1, 3, 6, and Technology 1.  Service Project 3, Career 3, and one more activity from any category will finish this IPP. Several girls in the troop would probably be happy to help Katie & Kasey finish this one up.

Just Jewelry IPP – Evie has done a lot of this one.

Invitation to the Dance IPP – Hasn’t Evie done this one?

Lure of Languages IPP – Diana is through with most of the activities, but needs paperwork.

Wildlife IPP – Elizabeth has completed the activities and the paperwork.

All About Birds IPP – Rossie & Elizabeth have completed this & have received the patch.

Car Care IPP – Jessie has completed the activities, Steph E. has completed some of them, and both need to get their paperwork signed by an advisor.

Sports for Life IPP – Pat is sure that  Katie & Kasey have done SB 1, 2, and Technology 1, 2, 3, and 5.  Career 3 and a service project are all that are left.  Several of us would probably be glad to help Katie Katie & Kasey with this IPP. Rathi Bose has Brownies who love to do things.

Prerequisite for Gold Award: Leadership Award (see Senior handbook, pages 151-152) – Anne and Elizabeth have actually completed the paperwork.  Many other girls are finished with the hours, but maybe not the paperwork.

Prerequisite for Gold Award: Career Exploration Pin (see Senior handbook, pages 152-157) – Tabby and Anne have finished the activities and some of the paperwork.

Prerequisite for Gold Award: Girl Scout Challenge (see Senior handbook, pages 158-161) – Everyone is at different stages with this project.  There are four worksheets to write out and the 15-hour community service project to complete. There is also a requirement to "get involved in Girl Scouting beyond your troop" which some of you have satisfied by serving on a council-wide planning committee, helping plan a special council event, serving as council horse-wranglers, etc. Elizabeth may be the only girl who has finished and done the paperwork.  If you want to do another park clean-up, we need to do it in May.  There are other things coming up soon in which you could do your 15 hours, like the Special Olympics, but you will need to sign up and get done.  Pat has phone numbers if you’d like to participate.

Here is the hour count that some of the girls already have invested in park clean-up:  Jessie – 7 hours;  Evie – 6 hours;  Chandler – 5 hours;  Christina – 7 hours;  Steph H. – 4 hours;  Anne – 9 hours ;  Diana – 4 hours.

Plans for the April meeting

*Evelyn*, *Karen* and * Stephanie E.* are in charge of the meeting, and they need to get together and make some plans.  We need to work on paperwork, make plans if we’re going to do a park clean up, and decide when and how we want to do our end-of-the-year Court of Awards.  If anyone needs to complete an IPP requirement with the troop, this would be a great chance.  Let Evie, Karen, Steph, or Pat know what you need.  If you need a service project, just call Rathi Bose, our favorite Brownie leader.  She’d love to let you come to their Brownie meetings and do activities with her girls.
