The Emergency Preparedness Interest Project Patch

Our troop decided to work on this Interest Project Patch all together.  Here’s what we did:

Skill Builders

#1    We completed a Red Cross Community First Aid course on our camping trip to Pine Acres, February 14-16, 2003. Mr. Callaway, a Red Cross Instructor, gave us all our tests, which we passed, and we received our certification.

#2    We completed a Red Cross Community CPR course on our camping trip to Pine Acres, February 14-16, 2003. Mr. Callaway, a Red Cross Instructor, gave us all our tests, which we passed, and we received our certifications in adult, child, and infant CPR.

Technology

#4    During our our camping trip to Pine Acres, February 14-16, 2003, we held a troop discussion how our families & communities would deal with a severe oil shortages.  We discussed ways that we could cut back on oil use but still retain basic community services. Some of our ideas were:



 

#5    We held a troop discussion about doing without electricity for 3-5 days at home, discussing safety, cooking, keeping warm, and cooperating with neighbors. The discussion was part of our camping trip to Pine Acres, February 14-16, 2003.

Service Project

#1     Anne, Jessie, Christina, Karen, Stephanie H., Diana, Jenny, and Evelyn volunteered for CPR Saturday on March 2, 2002, under the supervision of Mr. Ray Callaway, a Red Cross volunteer coordinator.

        Elizabeth, Christina, Karen, Tabby, Rossie & Chandler (?) plan to volunteer at the Atlanta Food Bank, which helps families with food in times of crisis.

Career Exploration

#2    We interviewed Dr. Elizabeth Unger, a pathologist with the CDC to talk about control of health emergencies at our camping trip to Pine Acres, February 14-16, 2003.

#3    We interviewed parents of school-age children (Callaway, Law, Lott, Gargiullo & Unger) & discussed emergency situations.  We prepared some Tips for Babysitters.  Some of these tips were:
