Learn the basics of hand sewing: how to thread a
needle, knot it, and begin sewing hiding the knots when possible. In
addition, you can learn mending basics like how to sew on a patch, a
button, or hem a garment.

Fabric scraps (if you do not have any mending or
other participants don’t have enough to share). Includes complete basic
sewing kit with notions: needles, thread, needle threader, mini
scissors/snippers, a seam ripper, tape measure, sewing ruler, etc.

Bring a variety of mending items, such as garments
missing a button (with matching button, if available), needing a patch,
needing a hem (such as pant legs or skirts); bring your favorite
decorative sewing kit bag/box/bin.

Evening stargazing.
We'll meet in the classroom under the dining hall for a brief star talk
and to get star charts & handouts. If skies are clear, we'll go outside
for a guided tour of the planets, stars & constellations of the winter
sky.

Instructor will
bring a green laser to point out the winter constellations. Star maps
and other handouts will be provided. Weather permitting, solar scopes
will be set up sometime during the day on Saturday to look for solar
flares and sunspots.
