MEETING MINUTES

July 8, 2004

7:00 – 9:00 PM

Welcome and Introductions – In attendance were Kippy Shea, Kara McFadden, Gail Draper, Terry Otto, Marsha Sussman, Marie Lott, Diana Snyder, Helen Smith-Tyler, and Brenda Carswell.

Where we are Today… In order to get the DCNR Leader Weekend on the council calendar, Lianne had to make an “executive decision” on the date and location for the weekend.  Lianne picked Camp Misty Mountain again for several reasons – subsidized cost (means lower cost to participants), helpful attitude by Rangers, staff, etc., reasonable distance for participants to drive, availability of date, and reasonable setup.  Lianne picked the only January date available – Jan. 7-9^th, 2005.  We have reserved Shellcracker Cove, Blue Gill Bay, Chestnut Gait, Trotter’s Ridge, Echo Hill, Farmhouse, the Dining Hall, and the pavilion.  We can offer adventure course (low and high) again this year, plus Horseback riding if desired. We opted out of canoeing (too cold).

Review of 2004 Lessons Learned/Feedback Forms – the team reviewed all of the feedback forms and suggestions for this year. Team will try to incorporate as many of the suggestions as possible.

Select theme for 2005 – Theme decided – “You’re a Star with DCNR!  A Celebration of Stage & Screen.”

Establish Project Timeline – see attached.

Establish core team and set up committees – See attached. Kippy would like someone to help her co-chair the Check-In Committee; still need someone to chair publicity.

Set project team meeting schedule – Team will not have an August meeting (due to recruit efforts in SU & trainer schedules); meetings will be held at the VSC on the second Thursday of each month, 7-8:30 PM.  Terry will check to see if there is a speakerphone that could be available. Lianne has a conference bridge so everyone can dial in if preferred (may be able to schedule some meetings via conference bridge).

Discuss class offerings – Classes were discussed. Team agreed to not offer as many “basic” training classes and more “fun” classes. Revised tentative class list attached. Confirmed instructors are shown with a “Y.”  Lianne to send out Class Info sheet for inclusion in flier.
