Hall of Exhibits offers fun for the whole family

The 2005 Girl Scout National Council Session/50th Convention is coming to the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Oct. 7-10. Girl Scouts and their families are encouraged to visit the large, interactive Hall of Exhibits from Friday, Oct. 7 through Sunday, Oct. 9.

Meet Olympic gymnast Dominique Dawes and actress American Ferrara

Dominique Dawes is a three-time Olympian. At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Dominique and the U.S. Gymnastics Team stole the hearts of Americans with their team gold medal. She also won the bronze medal on the floor competition, becoming the first African-American to win an individual gymnastics medal.

Currently, she is the president of the Women’s Sports Foundation. Dominique is eager to make an impact with young girls and women by educating them on the importance of physical fitness, specifically speaking about the physical, psychological and physiological benefits of being active. Also, in 2002, Dominique became the national spokesperson for uniquely ME! The Girl Scout/Dove Self-Esteem Program.

America Ferrara

America Ferrara
Actress

America first came to national attention with her starring role in Real Women Have Curves, which earned her several awards and nominations. She most recently starred in the hit film The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Other films include Lords of Dogtown and How the Garcia Girls Spent Their Summer. She is also currently a student at the University of Southern California majoring in International Relations.

America's roles in both Real Women Have Curves and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants speak strongly to the issues that girls face today and the importance of self-esteem. She will join Dominique Dawes as a national spokesperson for uniquely ME! The Girl Scout/Dove Self-Esteem Program. America will share her personal experience about self-esteem while supporting the goal of the program to boost the self-esteem of girls 8–17 across the nation.

You can meet America at the Dove Self-Esteem Fund booth:
• Friday, Oct. 7 – 1–3 p.m.
• Saturday, Oct. 8 – 11 a.m.–1 p.m. & 4–6 p.m.
   

Other features of the exhibit hall include a science and technology section and an outdoor activity area. Girls can also chill-out in the girls-only lounge.

Passes and Hours

The exhibit hall is open to anyone interested in attending, and passes are available at the door. Passes for children 17 and under are $5 each; passes for adults 18 and over are $10 each. The hours of the exhibit hall are:
• Friday, Oct. 7 – noon–7p.m.
• Saturday, Oct. 8 – 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
• Sunday, Oct. 9, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.

Channel 2's People 2 People Girl Scout representatives from our council will appear on the WSB-TV Channel 2 program People 2 People on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 6:30 a.m. The topic of the program will be the upcoming national convention.
