Welcome
to Troop 76!!!Emails for week of Oct 17:
As of today we have 12 troops that are signed up as interested or definitely coming to camporee. Three troops have already given us a deposit! We have 149 people interested so I think we will not have a problem meeting our 150-175 attendee goal.
There are 29 Brownies, 59 Juniors and 23 Senior/Cadettes. We will need to take this into account when finalizing our schedule and activities. With that many Senior/Cadettes, we are not going to be able to assign every Cadette to work with a younger troop. Maybe the Seniors could plan an activity for the other Cadettes. We need to think about how this is going to work. There are 6 11th graders, 7 9th graders and the rest are 6th graders.
Thank you Allie for coming up with a T-shirt design. Another option is to use Mary’s original artwork and incorporate that into the design. If you have an opinion please respond. Allie has already contacted the T-shirt guy so please let her know what you think by Oct. 23.
Some of you volunteered to come up with a campfire program for Friday night but I did not write down names. If you volunteered or remember who did can you please email me ASAP?
We have a few tasks to accomplish before our Nov. meeting so I am just going down the list and randomly assigning tasks. Remember that this is a group effort and we all are trying to participate equally. Everyone should be keeping up with their Silver Award logs that were distributed in Helen. It is a lot easier to fill it out as you go along rather than wait till Feb and try to remember everything you did.
A couple of other things which we expect everyone to do on their own:
Events other than camping
Nov 11-13 Camping:
Mary Ann – Saturday breakfast
Rachel – Saturday lunch
Allie – Saturday dinner
Katie – Saturday night snack
Justine – Sunday breakfast
Oct. 2 email:
Our next business meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 6:30 PM. MARY and AMELIA will be presenting to the Service Unit this month. Our assignments, as best I can remember, are:
Rachel and Justine: make a Registration form (done)
Katie: make a flyer for the 3 Leaves Web Page (done, see flyer at)
Amelia and Mary: come up with a plan for the patch (pending; presentation will be given at meeting and we will vote for our choice of patch)
We will also be circulating a sign-up sheet at the SU meeting to get an idea of how many troops are interested. Remember we need about 175 attendees to meet our budget. We will also be inviting troops from the Smokerise Service Unit.
At this meeting we need to break into small groups and create a preliminary schedule for activities, as well as a preliminary schedule for the whole weekend (for example, do we want a campfire Friday night? Do we want a fashion show? When are we going to do swaps? etc) Please think about these things and come prepared to discuss.
This is a good point to remind everyone that our Silver Award is a GROUP PROJECT--that means everyone should be participating. We have heard an awful lot from some of you and hardly any peeps from others of you. Everyone needs to come with ideas and speak up at the meetings -- this is how Camporee becomes even more fun! If you are a big talker, please keep your remarks brief so that others get a chance to speak. If you haven't spoken up yet, this is your chance so go for it!
We also need to talk about our November camping trip, which is being led by Ms McCann, so I defer to her regarding that.
Other dates you need to put on your calendar:
Thursday, Nov. 3: 6-8:30 PM--Skate Night sponsored by Troop 2879 --this is a fundraiser for their Pax Lodge trip:
Nov. 11-13, 2005: Timber Ridge Camping Trip.
Wednesday, Dec 7, 3:30-8 PM--we will be helping less fortunate kids shop for Christmas gifts at Santa Village, sponsored by the Salvation Army. We plan to leave at 3:30 PM and be back to the Katie's house at about 8PM. Bring money for fast-food dinner (more info as it gets closer)
Troop 2879 requests the honor of our presence at Misty Mountain March 23-25, 2006 for a weekend of camping, horseback riding, archery, and general merry making. This is not Palm Sunday weekend, or Easter Weekend, or any other important weekend (that I know of) We are requesting the same cabins we had last year (where the water in Ms. McDowell's coffee cup froze!) We need to get an idea of who can go and we need some girls to step forward to help organize it. I have been less than impressed with the response for our Nov. camping trip and I don’t want to commit to Ms. Snyder’s troop unless we see more enthusiasm and response regarding this trip. Please check your calendars and be ready to discuss at next week’s meeting.
Minutes from our Sept. 13 Meeting:
1) We decided that the theme of our camporee would be "Around the World in a Weekend," and we agreed that we would help Brownies earn "Playing Around the World" and "People Around the World." We will help the Juniors earn the "World Neighbors" badge. We will explore ideas for crafts and activities not specifically required by these badges that we think would be fun to add to the weekend.
2) Justine and Rachel will work on a registration form which will be posted on the SU website and given to the leaders at the next Service Unit meeting. Katie will make an informational flyer to post on the 3 Leaves web page. We will also pass around a signup sheet at the next SU meeting to get an idea of how many people are considering attending the weekend. Our goal is to sign up 150-175 people and get their deposits by November 1. If response from our own service unit seems weak, we may go outside our service unit and invite other troops to ensure that we have enough attendees to cover our charges from Camp Twin Lakes.
NOTE TO GIRLS AND PARENTS: We will have to sign a contract with Camp Twin Lakes in November that will commit us to paying them $10,000 to host our camporee. This translates into 150 attendees at $67.00 each. Our own girls will also have to pay the camporee fee, because the camp will be charging us for them. We will do all we can to get a minimum of 150 people to commit to attending before the signed contract and first deposit is due; if we feel we can't get the minimum number of attendees we may have to cancel our plans to put on a camporee.
6) Our troop will volunteer at Santa's Village (distribution of donated toys to needy children) on Wednesday, December 7, beginning at 4:30. More details to come, but please mark your calendars now.
7) We did not get to the discussion of our November camping trip. Would each girl please respond with one suggestion for activities other than the challenge course and archery? I am trying to find a way that everyone can participate at their desired challenge level, and I will see if those who would like to do archery can join another troop to do so.
8) Next meeting is Tuesday, October 11, at 6:30. Mark your calendar and be there! Remember, we are under a "no nagging" policy.
