Notes from the last meeting

The good news is that the Council will subsidize our Red Cross Course.  The bad news is that Austin has decided not to join the troop.  Our Mercer student nurses Julia Kitchings and Sheena Gaither were great fun, and we learned a lot about nursing and nursing school.  We can recommend them to any troop that wants to do some Career Exploration that is really fun and really interesting.  We determined that BerryCon will not impact our Cookie Booth, and we found out that all of us except Crystal will be able to go on the camping trip.  Crystal will be at Misty Mountain taking her equestrian training as an assistant instructor.  Go Crystal!

No Go on the Fund Raiser

We were too late to get in on the Clayton County PAC fund raiser, but Dr. Anita Lloyd will keep us in mind for future events.  She says that the facility has two smaller venues that might be more reasonable for us to work.  There is a website for the facility at www.clayton.k12.ga.us/PAC/ where we can take a look.

Camping Trip February 23-25 at Pine Acres

We are confirmed for February 23-25 at Mariner’s Lodge in Camp Pine Acres in Acworth.  Mariner’s Lodge is a winterized cabin with a partial kitchen (that means we have to bring our own pots and pans) and mattresses on the floor instead of bunks.  We’re confirmed for archery and a ring ride, so everyone please remember to bring long pants and shoes with a half-inch heel.  There are some riding boots that we can borrow at the barn, if you don’t have the right kind of shoe.  When we ride in the winter, gloves or mittens and something to keep your neck warm are really good.

We’re going to start our quilt project, so Mrs. Gargiullo and Mrs. Callaway will bring sewing machines, and Mrs. Lott will get the materials ready for us.  Mrs. Brethour has donated some more fun transfers to make troop t-shirts, so we’ll need to plan those.  If we can, maybe we’ll work on the Emergency Preparedness Interest Project Patch, maybe hike a little, and hope like crazy for good weather.  Of course, we know if the weather is bad, we will still find a way to have fun.

Mrs. Gargiullo has Emailed the menu we decided on to our wonderful troop shopper, Mrs. Kennedy, and we saved a list of what we do and don’t need from our last camping trip.  We will use disposables for this trip, but if you can bring an insulated mug with a lid, you’ll be glad.  If you have questions about what to bring, check the list: http://3leaves.org/4715/campinglist.html.

Notes from the last camping trip

To bring next time:  cutting board, sharp knife, and a few foam cups.
We have plenty of some of our usual supplies, and we do not need to buy any of the following:

The Council has agreed to subsidize our Red Cross CPR Course!

Mr. Callaway will teach us Adult and Child CPR for $25 each (paid to the Council), instead of $65 each (paid to the Red Cross).  We decided to use troop funds for the six girls.  Adults who wish to recertify will pay their own fee.  Mr. Callaway will have full gear (manikins, printed material, and everything) at the Callaway’s where we’ll all get down on Anne’s carpet.  We decided to meet at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 14 and do the course in about five hours so that those of us who need to get to afternoon commitments can do so.  Mrs. Callaway will make sure we don’t starve.
