Congratulations to Maria for her selection to the Governor's Honors Program this summer!

Next Meeting: Friday, April 14

When polled, the girls decided that they would like to keep this meeting date even though it is Good Friday, and even though we had scheduled a trip to Nease’s Needlework in Decatur for the next day. As it turn out, Susan Nease can’t host us on April 15, and we’re working on a new date that we hope will be just a week or two later. We also need to organize some Gold Award paperwork.

We will be re-registering for next year at this meeting, so we will need a parent to come in briefly to sign your form. Two things are new in the registration process this year. The Family Partnership Campaign will be conducted at the same time, and, wonder of wonders, the Council is taking credit cards as well as checks! Wow!

March Madness -- It’s not just basketball!

Every year our calendar gets very full in March. This month has been pretty busy. We worked really hard on our cookies. We sold 1380 boxes – an average of 194 boxes per girl. Great work!! Our troop profit is $852.10, and if the Service Unit also makes its goal, we will get a bonus of $175. That could give us $1000 to spend between now and next cookie sale. Hurray!

Karen, Maria, and Laura volunteered for CPR Saturday on March 25, along with Mrs’s Unger, Caruso, and Callaway. Not everyone was able to stay long enough to complete the training, and several of us had our web registrations not go through. There was a level of confusion that was unusual, but next year we’ll have a better idea of what we need to do. Anyway, if Maria and Laura decide to work on the Emergency Preparedness IPP, they have done the service project. Karen has already completed that IPP, we think.

Textile Arts Interest Project Patch

Crystal, Maria, Laura, Karen, Brittany are nearly finished with this one, too! Maria needs to make a bear, and we need to deliver our bears to the fire station. We had planned a visit to the Decatur needlework store, Nease’s Needlework for Saturday, April 15, but that date has become impossible for Susan Nease. We’ll get back to you with the new date as soon as we get it.

We need to have a pillow top fashion show at our April 14 meeting so that each girl can show how she finished decorating the pillow tops we made back in October. Any kind of decoration will work: embroidery, appliqué, stencil, or any kind of fabric paint. If you have a design, but you haven’t carried it out yet, please bring your design and pillow top to the meeting, and maybe we can do it that night or find you the materials you need.

Photography Interest Project Patch

At our March 17 meeting we met Helene Mewborne and Judy Weissinger to begin work on our Photography IPP. Maria, Jessie, Laura, Karen, and Brittany learned a lot about the workings of both 35 mm and digital cameras. Mrs. Gargiullo will help us write up what we’ve done, but it looks like Skill Builders 1, 2 and 4 are complete, except that we need to shoot some 35 mm pictures. We may have also done part or all of Technology #4.

Maria is completing Career Exploration #5 by being on the school newspaper staff, and

Karen is working on a presentation on famous female photographers so that everyone else can complete Career Exploration #4. We’ll need a service project, which could be photographing the Service Unit Bridging Ceremony or another special event. Even though we only have one more meeting before our May Court of Awards, we actually may complete this IPP in time!

Here’s a Question:

Do we want to plan an end of the year trip?  If we do, where should we go?  What would we like to do?  How much of our troop money do we want to spend?  Okay, so that’s four questions. Be thinking !

Things Coming Up

We have a number of things coming up. Here’s the list to refresh your memories.

Friday April 14,
7-10 pm

Regular Meeting

Re-registration Night!  Please bring a parent so they can sign your form & pay $10/girl registration plus your Family Partnership contribution ($40/family is our goal). For the first time, the council will take credit cards for this. (Cash & checks are still OK, too.)

Natural dyed pillow top fashion show or crafts time. Pat will bring pillow forms for whomever needs one. Karen and friends present on famous women photographers, and we make plans to see if we can finish up our Photography IPP. We will need to decide when and how to hold our Court of Awards.

Some Saturday
soon TBA

Field Trip!

Visit Nease’s Needlework in Decatur. Susan Nease will help us finish up our Textile Arts IPP.

Sunday April 30,
Embry Hills UMC Fellowship Hall
2:00-3:45pm

Service Unit Bridging Ceremony - Laura, Crystal & Callie will get their 10-year pins. Diana will be awarded her Gold Award in absentia and Jessie & Karen will bridge to adults! We may decide to photograph the event as our Service Project for the Photography IPP.

May ?

We have not yet actually planned our Court of Awards. We have not even saved a date. Jessie’s graduation is May 7, and Karen’s is on May 27, so those two weekends are not too good. We can plan a party or an overnight, or we can go out to dinner together, or think of something even better.
