Our Own Very Special "Tea for Moms" Our Service Project for the Cooking IPP will be to prepare a festive meal for people who usually are serving us.  We will invite Mrs. Webster too, because all our other graduated moms are not gone yet, and we’d miss her if we didn’t ask her to come.  The requirement is “a full, festive meal as a celebration of a cultural heritage, holiday, or other event.”  March 12th is, of course, the Girl Scout Birthday.  This will be the 14th GS B’day celebrated by Troop 4715, which is another reason to celebrate.  We will need to do some serious research on the topic of teas, so everyone plans to work hard at that!

Savannah Trip

Tour and Dinner at Juliette Low Home in Savannah possibly combined with a day trip to Cumberland Island  -  many details to work out.

Savannah Trip Planning

Since we voted to revisit Savannah at the end of this year, Pat Emailed the Birthplace reservations office to find out if it were possible to schedule a visit on such short notice.  They emailed back with a reservation for Thursday, May 26 for a house tour, activity session and dinner. We want to avoid all the hassle of Memorial Day Weekend, so we’d better plan to come back to Atlanta on Friday morning after our visit.  We’ll need to decide exactly what we want to do.  It’s about a 5-hour drive to Savannah, and Lakeside and Chamblee’s graduation dates are reputed to be Saturday, May 21. We are estimating the cost at $150 per girl, part from troop funds, part from each girl. Here’s our plan so far:

Tuesday May 24             Drive to Savannah in 2-3 personal vehicles leaving around 10:00 a.m. Arrive at the beach house between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. We would bring food for 3 breakfasts and 2 lunches.

Wednesday May 25        Morning:  Either go to the beach (no swimming without lifeguard), visit Tybee Light, or go to the Tybee Marine Center to work on the Coastal Georgia Patch. Lunch at the beach house. Afternoon: Go into Savannah for Ghost Tour, shopping, and sightseeing; dinner at the Pirate House; return to beach house

Thursday May 26            Reservation at Birthplace for tour, Special Interest Session Fashion, Fabric and Frills, dinner session Victorian Savannah Supper.  Lunch prepaid order at nearby Blimpie to be eaten in the square.

Friday May 27                 Return to Atlanta by private vehicle

What else is going on?

Dr. Mildred Cody visited our troop at our January 21st meeting  to help us with the Career Exploration #3 and some of the Technology requirements for the Creative Cooking IPP.  On our camping trip we will do some other Skill Builders, probably choosing from #1, #5, and #7.  We may be finished by March 12.

We plan to hold a group discussion to complete Service Project #3 for the Car Sense IPP.  The date we have picked is Sunday March 6, and we will invite all the Senior Girl Scouts from our Service Unit to a discussion about driving under the influence.  This date is two weeks before prom.  We’ve already done our Technology #5 with Mrs. Gargiullo helping us find out about the costs of purchasing and running a car.

Sometime in February we need to start thinking about the Service Unit Bridging, which we will run again this May. The date we have reserved is Saturday afternoon, May 14.  Our April 15 meeting will probably be focused on pulling everything together for the Bridging, but we will need invitations ready for the SU meeting that probably will be April 12, so at our March 11 meeting, we can’t lose sight of the invitations while we’re getting ready for tea time.
