Cadette Girl Scout Troop 4715

January 5, 2000

BEING A CADETTE IS SO GREAT!

Last night Anne's Dad, who is a Boy Scout leader, looked at the calendar on our website that our Wonder Web Woman Marie Lott keeps so elegantly updated. His reaction was, "You really have a lot of stuff going on!" We really do, and any girl can participate in anything she is interested in. It's a little new for us to have individual responsibility for registering for all the Council events, and we've missed a few things by not meeting the deadlines, but there is SO MUCH! Anyway, let's all get our acts together for the CASE Camporee registration and keep an eye on the troop website.

CASE CAMPOREE, April 15-16 2000

This is the major event Council-wide for Cadettes, and registrations need to be in the mail January 15 or very shortly thereafter. The cost is $40 per girl, which is about the cost per girl for our troop campout, but our cookie money generally pays half of troop camping trips. There are extra fees for certain events that are up to girls' choices:

$5 to be in a cabin instead of a platform tent
$10 horseback riding (beginning group or advanced group)
$5 to go canoeing
$5 to learn more about outdoor cooking
$3 for archery
There are no fees for:
Craft Potpourri Flag Football Handbowl Pottery Ice Cream Making
Nature Rainsticks Sign Language Soccer
Softball Surprise! Swing Dancing Volleyball

Somewhere in this list two well-known trainers (Pat and Marie - and by the way, we need one more t-shirt squeezer - any other mom want to go?) will be doing tie-dye t-shirts (bring your own t-shirt). Sounds like the Cadette Planning Board has done a good job of planning. Be sure to say a kind word to your local CPB member.

When you fill out your registration form, you will need to rank order your top seven activity choices. Choose from the 16 activities listed above. (According to the inside sources, "changes in the activity sessions cannot be accommodated during the weekend.")

As always, first come-best served. Girls may register with one buddy. We could each request the cabin option in an attempt to be together, but there's always the Make New Friends aspect.

Here's how we plan to register: On Saturday, January 15, Mrs. Lott will have the forms ready for us at St. Bede's. Please arrive at 9:00 a.m. for our trip to Gainesville, but come inside first to do the forms. The $40 check (made out to GS Council of NW GA) needs to be mailed with the registration, and it is non-refundable. Additional fees are paid after you find out whether or not you get the activities/cabin that you requested. When everyone's form is done, we will put them all in one envelope and mail them before we leave for Gainesville. Even though the registration deadline is March 1st, the council expects to fill up this event by early February! They will not accept registrations mailed before January 15th.

THEATER TOUR IN GAINESVILLE

The trip today should finish up The Performing Arts Interest Project Patch for most of the girls. Notice on our calendar how WWW Lott keeps track of who has completed what activity. We'll need to see what we can do for the girls who are not quite finished. We will meet at St. Bede's at 9 a.m. and leave for Gainesville as soon as possible after getting our CASE registrations done. We will also do our cookie permission forms while we're together.

When we get to Gainesville, we will meet Sandi Blakenship who will give us a backstage tour of Pearce Auditorium, talk with us about how floors are constructed for dance, and be one of the three arts professionals who will talk with us about their careers. Then we will go to St. Ives Coffeehouse for lunch and a quick Court of Awards. We hope to leave Gainesville by 1:00 p.m. and be back at St. Bede's by 2:00. Mrs. Lott will be arranging carpools, and Mrs. Kennedy will be our contact mom.

COOKING FOR NICHOLAS HOUSE FAMILY SHELTER

Once again we will celebrate MLK Day by cooking dinner for the St. Bartholomew's homeless family shelter. We will meet at the Callaway's house at 3:00 p.m. to start cooking and then go over to Nicholas House at 5. We should be finished and back at the Callaway's by 7 p.m. We will spend a little time at the beginning of the meeting doing our cookie planning (no film - I promise!)

Our past menu seems to go over well, but all Pat can remember is chicken nuggets, fruit salad, and brownies. Who remembers what else we fixed? Is everyone okay with keeping the same menu? Call Pat , but not until Sunday, January 9, when she's back from a conference.

AND THE DECISION OF THE JUDGES IS...

A Junior Troop in our Service Unit is entering a cake baking contest and has asked our girls to judge the troop level to select the baker who will move on to the next level. The best date we can find is Saturday afternoon, January 22, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Bede's. Seventh graders please let Mrs. Lott know if you can come. Eighth graders please let Pat know.

NEXT MEETING: FEBRUARY 11, 7-10 P.M. AT ST. BEDE'S

We will need to finalize our plans for Misty Mountain. We have reserved horseback riding, interpretive nature trail, and challenge tower times. Be ready to make final decisions on what else we would like to do, what we will need to do it, and which girls will be responsible for getting the materials together to do whatever it is. Our other important topic is Cookie Booths!
