The Car Sense Interest Project Patch

Maria, Karen, Stephanie, Rossie, Tabby, Diana, Brittany, Elizabeth

On December 10, 2004, we met James Unger and his friends Mike and Stephanie Gavrioledes at Michael’s Automotive on Lawrenceville Highway.  We were able to complete several requirements for this IPP.

Technology

#6        At our troop meeting on September 10, 2004, Mrs. Gargiullo helped us to find information on what it costs to purchase and maintain an automobile.  We compared the cost of gasoline, insurance, registration, parking, taxes, and maintenance with the cost of using Marta for a month (about $75).  We found that it is cheaper to use Marta, as long as the train and bus service goes where you need to go without it taking 2 hours to get there and 2 hours to get back.  A lot of people drive to a Marta train station and take the train into town if they work within a few blocks of a train station.

Service Project

#3        We plan to hold a group discussion to complete Service Project #3 for the Car Sense IPP.  The date we have picked is Sunday March 6, and we will invite all the Senior Girl Scouts from our Service Unit to a discussion about driving under the influence.  This date is two weeks before the Lakeside Prom.
