November and December 2003 Edition
Earning and Learning goes hand in handThese past few months have been so much fun for the daisies. Each meeting has brought a new learning experience for the girls. All that is learned is further enforced by the values taught at home. The first petal that our girls earned was the Be a Sister to Every Girl Scout. Being kind and giving of yourself goes with what the Girl Scout theme is all about. Our daisies made cards for their fellow daisy friends to show their “sister” side. The second petal, which will earned on the Nov. 13th meeting, will be the Respect Myself and Others petal. Our girls, while doing another project, will get a lesson on how to take care of themselves, along with questions on health and hygiene (another learning experience furthering the learning given at home). They have been doing good and will continue to do so as the Girl Scout year progresses. I am very proud of these girls. |

Washington Farms TripOctober 18th, 2003 was the date of our first field trip taken at Washington Farms, located on the outskirts of Watkinsville, in between Monroe and Athens, off of Hwy. 53. Our troop, along with the new daisy troop, piled in to cars and vans and made our way from our meeting point, Jason’s Deli. Once we arrived, we took the opportunity to collect our tickets for the day and made our way to the picnic tables for a pre-planned sack lunch. After lunch, all the daisies and parents piled into the cumbersome hayride and were taken for a ride along tour around the farm. We stopped at the petting zoo, were let off, and took the time to enjoy the farm animals, such as a pregnant goat, a pot-bellied pig, a few bunnies, and a kitten. After the return to the pumpkin patch, we sat down for a “lesson” in the fine art of corn-mazing, gave the girls a chance to grab a pie pumpkin, and made our way to the cornmaze for the remainder of the afternoon. The girls had a blast. This trip was a success! Fun was certainly had by all. Our photos will be posted soon! A small note saying thanks to all the parents that have brought snacks for the meetings. It has been a big help. Festival of TreesDecember 8th, 2003 is the Girl Scout’s day at the Festival of Trees. I am still nailing down a time for our troops to attend. I will keep everyone further updated as things come up. December Community Service ProjectI am extremely anxious about pulling together our troop’s first community project. I am looking into having our girls visit a local assisted living/nursing home. I know that the children will get a heart-felt fulfillment by helping an elderly person. The theme will be geared around the holidays. I will keep everyone apprised as I know what we can do. |
Our upcoming Investiture CeremonyI am happy to announce the official date of our Investiture Ceremony. November 22nd, 2003 is that date! I am so excited for our girls They have been working so hard to earn their petals, badges, and pins. This group of girls is such a unique and wonderful group. I am sincerely blessed to have them AND the cooperative parents to go along with them. The ceremony will be held on the beautiful grounds of Stone Mountain Park, near the Crossroads village (crossing my fingers, hoping for the Triangle Park area). As far as I know, the times of the ceremonies (I am also taking into account the attendance of my brownie troop) are as follows: 4pm for the daisies, 5pm for the brownies. I will have already collected for the group rate tickets for the pre-sale and have them ready to hand out for the remainder of the festivities happening at the mountain. Each ceremony should not run any longer than and hour, but I take into account the “other fun” at the park too. I am hoping to come to a decision as to whether or not we should all go in on the purchasing of food for the ceremony. Example bucket o’ chicken, crock-pot of cocktail weenies (I am bringing that), veggie tray, etc… Ultimately it’ll be a decision made by each individual person, but the food at the mountain is rather pricey. Food, fun, awards, goody bags, and the holiday theme will be the “gist” of the day. Don’t forget to pick up a flyer about the mountain at the meeting prior to the Investiture. Hope to see you all there! **A small note: for anyone not able to attend, I will hold a mini-ceremony for any girl at the meeting prior to the Investiture. ….and for those who’ve purchased the items (petals, pins, etc.) for your daughter, please make sure you have all that they need for the Ceremony. |
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!
