TROOP NEWS: On September 26th, Troop 24423 bridged from Juniors to Cadettes and 6 of the 8 girls were awarded their Bronze Awards that they completed in their last year of Juniors: Jordyn Sak, Nicole Blank, Shea Flanagan, Caroline McAuley, Ella Skillas and Courtney Harper. Throughout March and April 2009, Jordyn, Ella and Courtney researched information on native plants and birds and designed a birding area for the Jekyll Island Tidelands Nature Center. They spent time making birdouses for the native birds and then decided on and ordered the appropriate plants that would attract those birds. While attending Jekyll Island with the rest of their troop in May 2009, they shared what they learned and helped lead their troop with installing all the bird houses and plants at the nature center. Within one month of their visit to Jekyll Island, the nature center sent them back a picture of a bird's nest with bluebird eggs inside! Beginning in March 2009, and ending in the summer of 2009, Nicole, Caroline and Shea planned and presented craft activities for a local shelter for homeless families. They shopped and planned their activites and then visited the shelter on three different occasions to work with the children at the shelter to give the parents a little break. The children at the shelter were so thrilled and their parents really enjoyed the special attention that their kids received during this time. The shelter is looking forward to future visits from the troop! All the girls are now planning on their Silver! Congrats!
